well, here's a bridge design that gets me thinking. Alamillo Bridge connects Seville with La Cartuja peninsula


 Santiago Calatrava Valls is a Spanish architect, structural engineer, sculptor and painter, particularly known for his bridges supported by single leaning pylons, and his railway stations, stadiums, and museums

an amazing example of a cantilevering cable-stayed construction. Though it required more materials than other cable-stayed bridges, the soaring design makes up for all losses.

    I know of at least 3 Calatrava projects in the US and two of them are somewhat related to transportation.

    The Milwaukee art museum, the World Trade Center Transportation Hub (subway station/shopping center built near the old World Trade Center site) and a bridge in Dallas.

    He has very interesting designs.
