my friends, dear readers, and car lovers.... allow me a moment to ponder on all the magnificent vehicles, lost forever, because of divorces.

this was one.

Sold because of heartless lawyers, bitter ex wives, and (that son of a bitch) Murphy's Law.

Sometime soon, while it's on your mind, I hope you stand silent, gallant, and drink a very cold delicious beer with a toast to the marvelous cars that terrific men have had ripped from their garages and drive ways.

Yes, the past century of the legal system (not called the justice system for a reason) has penalized car guys, and the harmony between them and their internal combustion engine powered machines, which has been the reason the tunnels reverb, and the drag strips shake, and the drive is worth the price of gas.

I'm talking about the sundering of a marriage being the unstoppable force that puts a stop to enjoying your good old truck, or your sports car (imagine how many Ferraris have been lost this way) or that motorcycle you rode with your best buddies. The muscle car you and your dad fixed up, that commuter you brought your kids home from the hospital in, your first car you bought in high school with lawn mowing and wood splitting money.

Loft a frothy headed beautiful blonde drink in a mug, and if the feeling of anger overcomes you, swear like the old Scotsman in the John Wayne movie "The Quiet Man" (Barry Fitzgerald) with Tourette's syndrome stung by hornets.   (That's as manly a reference as I could conjure up, a John Wayne movie character in a swearing apoplectic fit)  because that is how frustrating the situation is - when car guys are forced by divorce, to lose the object of passion that made them happy, never had a headache, is always ready to leave on time, doesn't care if you test drive another car, and doesn't care what time you get home.

It's a bit like this song about beer...

This has been a public service announcement, results may vary, batteries not included, and if someone out there can write a better piece about the loss of cars due to divorce, you better believe it, I'll post it!

  1. A good friend and her now-late husband were members of our local old car club, The Pin-MAR Antique Car Club were driving just south of the Sunshine Skyway in the Terra Ceia area and spotted a 1930 Murray Fordor Model A town sedan with a for sale sign. They circled back to look at it and found in small letters, the price of exactly $1K when a good one was selling in the $12K to $14K range. The low price was due to a divorce where he was ordered to sell assets. Bill wrote a check and while Linda drove the grocery getter, Bill drove the A home over the Skyway. Bill passed and Linda remarried another club member and today they have a 20 car collection and still own the all original, unrestored A
