Surface area isn't important. Filtering and flow are. K and N filters have no more surface area than a Fram, but they flow better, and filter better, so, surface area is NOT the measuring stick of what IS or IS NOT a decent enough filter, for the price. We all know a cabin filter is a huge waste of money, and there is NO reason for a damn HEPA filter there.. so, I guess I'm trying to say, is that a micro fiber cloth MIGHT be good enough, and useful enough, to use because of the money saved over a regular cheap air filter
