The FMCSA rule on drug or alcohol crimes requires 163,000 CDL and CLP worker's licenses to be downgraded starting in November, prohibiting drivers who have had problems with drugs or alcohol in the past from driving. (thank you Don B!)

However, Oregon started sending out letters telling people that they no longer had valid drivers licenses

But they sent those to the wrong people

And then they had to send these notices out making it clear that no one checked the original list for accuracy, or verification

  1. Jesse, thanks for this timely post.

Last Friday I got a letter from the Oregon DOT saying my CDL will be cancelled because I'm listed as prohibited on the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Clearinghouse.

The funny thing is that I've never had a DUI or failed a drug test, and when I log into the Clearinghouse portal, it shows that I have no violations.

This looks like another Federal program that's screwed up. It won't affect me since I retired last year, but I feel sorry for the other 163,000 drivers whose livelihood is threatened.

  2. I just got through to the Oregon DMV and they told me I was one of 153 drivers who erroneously were sent letters about having their CDL's cancelled.
