ReplyDeleteLong long ago I had (or rather my employer had) a VW pickup truck, and despite its many egregious faults one great virtue was that big flat bed and the fold-down sides. Despite being shallower it made the space more useful and easier to load. It's always been surprising to me that this feature is so ignored in American trucks.
ReplyDeleteThe American market is so focused on luxury interiors and creature comforts at the expense of a just plain pickem up truck that actually carries stuff that needs to be carried, but I guess we'll just have to keep wishing and buying old beaters instead.
the 90s ford ranger was the last of the cheap job focused trucks I can think of... all the contractors used them for everything. Carpet cleaning to lawn care to cable guy and plumbers
DeleteThis spec is fantastic. It's all I need, basic, rugged and utilitarian. My budget does not extend beyond this sort of thing. I have an 2008 Mazda BT50 tray back and I'm going to need to keep it running another ten years until we both retire. A $10 000 truck would be/will be what the "cost of living" dictates to hold off a depression.
