There used to be a tradition of private pilots flying to restaurants for meals.. Back in the early to middle 60's, my dad would sometimes take us to The Dinnerbell in McComb Mississippi. We'd fly there for lunch https://www.thedinnerbell.net/history/.. back in a simple time when you didn't have to talk to air controllers and you could just fly anywhere that was not a major airport.. It was about a 1 hour flight (100 miles) from our base in Opelousas, La. We also would fly to other locations in Louisiana to get really good Cajun dishes.. K Paul Prudhomme, the famous chef, had one oof his early restaurants on the edge of the airport.. a place named Big Daddio's Patio.. folks would fly in just to eat there,,
I just posted about airport restaurants, https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2023/07/why-are-airfield-restaurants-so-common.html It probably also helped that the required maintenance on the aircraft was not yet a thing, and planes were cheap (compared to today) and fuel was cheap
