oh shit.... tool van guys like Matco and Snap On, they have got to having a complete damn work stoppage until garages and shops get back to work

and with shops and garages shut down... are mechanics keeping up with making their payments?

  1. My brother is a mechanic at a GM dealer in Michigan. Their service department is open, because it's considered essential, but the sales department is closed. His shop was slow before the virus and even slower now. He gets paid flat rate, so if there isn't work to do, he doesn't get paid. His shop laid off a lube tech, parts worker, and some other people.

      Isn't there also a backup to the flat rate, that he'll get paid something per hour if the flat rate work falls below some set amount?

      I made a run to my office at the dealership I was laid off from, and learned that they laid off the majority of their sales guys, all the newbies at least, and since there simply isn't anyone coming in to buy cars, just kick tires, they kept 4 senior sales guys on, for now.
      They laid off the head of finance, which is probably going to cause problems, as she's incredible at her job, and possibly not replaceable.
      But time will tell.
      I was shocked that they are now down to a skeleton crew
      When I was laid off (photographer of the inventory for online shopping) so were the lube oil guys, and at least one of the parts guys, as well as the service advisors for the quick lube dept.
      It's a ghost town for the time being. I'm guessing one month minimum

  2. He told me he's only on flat rate, but they've been more busy the last couple days. Sounds like their dealership is the same kind of skeleton crew. Hopefully it won't be for too long.
