I'm fascinated by designs that didn't succeed, but seem plausible

  1. I have two of these, acquired over the years, from yard sales or something. They are very elegant, and the movable jaws can be replaced with ones of different shapes. I have a round, sort of needle-nosed one, and one with a pipe notch.

Unfortunately, their great failing is that they cannot exert much force and are thus not as useful as many other tools. The handles also tend to snap too close together, and endanger your fingers. It's kind of a do-all that's not as forceful as vise grips, as precise as a wrench, or as comfortable as water pump pliers. I keep them around because they're too pretty not to, but usually reach for something else.

    1. nice! Compliments on your acquisition skills!
I ought to do a post of goofy tools. I have a socket wrench that works by pulling a chain out of it's handle to make the driver rotate, so the handle can remain stationary, as well as a couple other odd balls.
It's fun just to come across them when rummaging in the tool box
