On the return pass, at 427 mph, the lack of good body mounting, and not enough clearance at speed with air pressure, centrifigal force, and kinematics, caused tire deflection which allowed a panel to rub the tire. Which killed the left rear tire.


Which then put all the weight of the car on the right rear and the left front. The front end, which had caster and TOO much scrub radius is what I believe CRASHED the car, because as soon as the Left rear tire blew, the car turned right HARD. And the car went right to about 120 degrees. So fast that my right thumb, which was on the parachute air button, was deployed when the butterfly steering wheel turned into my thumb. The 1/4" SS shaft of the air switch is bent. The car about this time was bottom toward finish line, which blew almost all panels off the car. Nano seconds later, the wing struck the salt, and chute hit, straightening the car, and preventing a pencil roll. It landed on it's wheels, fyi.. Then we headed for the slow dismount, without steering as the steering link 1/2" bolt had sheared. Flipped a few times, but energy was absorbed by the wing, wing struts (1"x 10" 6061 bar), and Mr Jackson's Billet Injector and Supercharger.

and THAT's one reason why they do speed runs that increase in speed until the driver and car have been checks out at slow, medium, and high speed.

So... is tech inspection supposed to check the clearance?

    1. cause, effect, clearance from body to tire.... and why? I think why is important. If we don't learn from other people's mistakes, we might make those too. A tire at 427 miles per hour... have you seen how much they grow in diameter? Top Fuelers go mid 300 mph, and those Goodyear wrinkle walls grow 9 inches. If that isn't accounrted for when the tire is inside a fairing, it's just going to be all bad.
