Tesla sedan in Autopilot mode hit a parked California police car in Laguna Beach.... that ought to prove the damn autopilot is no damn good

The officer was not in the cruiser during the crash, he says the Tesla driver suffered minor injuries.

The collision happened at 11:07 a.m. at 20652 Laguna Canyon Road, according to Laguna Police Sgt. Jim Cota.

Cota said that a year ago in the same area there was another collision involving a Tesla running into a semi-truck.

    2. Tesla is showing how it saves time by skipping the whole running into a car and waiting for the police to show up thing.

  2. I agree 100% Jesse! This "Autopilot" for cars is just stupid beyond words. Auto manufactures need to pull there heads out of their collective asses and stop with "The Jetsons" BULL SHIT! This is one idea that really is scary to me, especially as I ride motorcycles. BASTA! ENOUGH!

    1. if it were something that was proven safe over a decade, then I might trust it enough to get me across the desert on a freeway... no traffic, straight roads for days. But, in the city? Hell no

    2. I agree. It doesn't matter how fast the processors are, how keen the sensors, or how many multiples AI exceeds human intelligence. Nothing can ever account for or completely circumvent the stupidity, arrogance, slothfullness, mistakes, sabatoge, and general chaos that the human species bring to every endeavour. Or as my Drill Sergeant would say "you can make things tool proof, but no one can make anything damn fool proof."

  3. uhh this whole auto pilot thing, is to assist the driver, who is supposed to be awake, and sort of paying attention to where they are going, not napping or watching movies.

    1. That would be okay if indeed the operator did do that, however human nature dictates that will never be the case.
