They started to build bicycle parts in 1890, Complete bicycles in 1900, motorcycles in 1903, and cars in 1907.
They stopped building cars in 1922, and motorcycles in 1935.
They continued on making parts until 1987.
I see this pic is dated 1923 on this site - http://classic-motorbikes.net/classic-bike-images/charter-lea-classic-bikes/ - it is not common to see a bike with gas lights and a front brake. Maybe the front brake on this one was a one-off to allow this big outfit a chance of stopping. That is a big load for what is probably not much more than 10 bhp.
