and now for something different, circa Saturday Evening Post

  1. This product helps extend fuel during gasoline rationing during the Second World War. Nice claim. I had a friend, old enough to be my grandfather, who was a Hollingshead District Manager. A neighbor of ours in Manhattan explained to me that for their funeral home they bought a used Franklin with its air-cooled engine to use as a hearse because they could mix rationed gasoline with 10 per cent naphtha. The engine would run smoothly and they could get more miles for their use.

    1. I'll be.... where in the world did they get that much Naptha in containers? Was the air cooled engine better suited to the 10% Naptha mix than a water cooled and radiator equipped engine?
