The big guns in small boats, Packard and Hall Scott engines

  1. Sweet! Hall-Scott was also a major supplier of fire apparatus and heavy truck engines in the pre-diesel era. I'm pretty sure that just about every one of L.A.F.D's and L.A.County F.D.'s 1950's and early to mid '60s Crowns were Hall-Scott powered.

As for Packard...every P.T. boat had a trio of Packard engines in them...marine tweaked versions of the License built Packard version of the legendary Rolls-Royce Merlin. This same engine powered an obscure little airplane called the P-51 Mustang.
