I just heard from my morning FM radio show hosts, that there are a LOT of stories, mostly tear jerkers, during the current winter Olympics. Here's one they mentioned

His father, John, a former cross-country skier, famously woke up at 4 a.m. to clear a homemade ice rink on a local pond using a John Deere lawnmower equipped with a custom-built Zamboni attachment to save his son the time wasted to go to town (or something similar) to get in his practice efforts on the local ice rink

Ensuring the ice was perfect for them, he engineered his own "Zamboni" system to smooth out the ice, a testament to the DIY spirit that supported Ben's athletic development.

Ben Ogden made Olympic history earlier this week, ending the United States’ 50-year medal drought in cross-country skiing. The two-time Olympian claimed silver in the men’s cross-country skiing sprint. He is just the second U.S. man to claim an Olympic medal in cross-country skiing since Bill Koch, also a native Vermonter like Ogden, did at the Innsbruck Games in 1976.

Here's a post to celebrate the most amazing Zamboni driver ever! A 42-year-old Zamboni driver who earned a win in his one and only NHL game, because he was the designated emergency backup goaltender (EBUG) on standby

his background as a goaltender had seen him take some reps in practice for both squads, the Carolina Hurricanes and Toronto Marlies, but his primary job was driving a Zamboni for the farm club and tending to other maintenance duties at the arena.

However, by the time the night came to an end, he’d unexpectedly made his NHL debut at the age of 42 after both the team's goalies had to leave the game with injuries, prompting the Zamboni driver to play against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the home team. and walked away with a win against the franchise that signed his paychecks.

Ayres was the designated EBUG when the Maples Leafs and Hurricanes kicked off their game on February 22nd, and while he was watching the contest in the stands when the puck dropped, he got a text instructing him to head down to the locker room to throw on some gear after Carolina goalie James Reimer was knocked out of the game in the first period.

Reimer was replaced by the backup goalie was also injured after taking a hit to the head during a collision with around nine minutes left in the second period. As a result, Ayres made his way onto the ice and spent a few minutes warming up before play resumed to kick off his NHL debut with a 3-1 lead.

The 42-year-old helped the Hurricanes in their 6-3 win by blocking eight of the 10 shots on goal against him in the last 30 minutes of the game.

Ayres is the second-oldest player to make their professional debut in NHL history, after Lester Patrick in 1927, according to the NHL.

The Boston Bruins rolled out their Gillette Fusion Zamboni for the final two games of the regular season and three playoff games, reports Darren Rovell of CNBC's SportsBiz. It's also worth noting that Schick did something similar with its Quattro razor at a hockey game in Australia.

Central Saanich Police have pulled over someone in a Zamboni near the Pat Bay Hwy and Tanner road reported to be clearing snow on the side roads.

The man, a Central Saanich farmer, had bought the used Zamboni for $300, said Central Saanich Sgt. Paul Brailey. He usually keeps it on his farm. “He saw the snow hadn't been cleared there and he was trying to clear the snow," Brailey said.

Unfortunately, the Zamboni cleared the top layer of snow but flattened the bottom layer, which, if the temperatures dip low enough, could turn into, well, an ice rink.

"I think his intentions were good, I think he was trying to make a difference," Brailey said.

Public works was called to clear the snow he left behind, using the proper snow clearing equipment.

Brailey said the man was escorted back to his property on the Zamboni.
