The popular dog toy Kong, originally came from a VW type 2 rear suspension.
Kong founder Joe Markham was not pleased with his trained police dog, Fritz's chewing habits. Fritz loved to chew on harmful items like rocks instead of things like shoes, this caused his teeth to wear down.

In the 1930s, Eritrea in North Africa was an Italian colony and the capital, Asmara, was almost exclusively populated by Italians. One of their biggest passions was motor racing and the local automobile club arranged numerous hillclimbs and street races.
Notable events included the 1937 Coppa del Governatore dell’Eritrea, a 26km hillclimb from Nefasit to Asmara, and the 1938 Coppa di Natale, won by Emilio Romano in his Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza.
This is the only known Dilambda racing special created in period, surviving as is, with its pared-back body and substantially reduced chassis.
The car displays Vincenzo Lancia’s innovative sliding-pillar front suspension, a semi-monocoque chassis, compact 24-degree, 4-litre V8, and hydraulic drum brakes all round. The chassis has been skilfully shortened and narrowed. The usual Dilambda front cowl, suspension struts and bonnet have been streamlined with a lower profile.
It's rugged construction, torquey engine and sophisticated suspension made it particularly well suited to the long, challenging hillclimbs of North Africa.
Since the war, there had been a US base in Eritrea and the car was bought by a serviceman. It returned with him to the US, where it resided until 2020, relatively unknown to the broader public.

I will get to them soon. Not that my car gets a lot of air and suspension hard stop needs, but, dot he right thing. Replace the bad parts

a significant safety feature wasn't invented by any car company, it was steering geometry to create self centering steering
Arthur Krebs proposed placing the front axle of a car at a positive caster angle in his UK patent of 1896, entitled improvements in mechanically propelled vehicles.
In it he stated it was intended "To ensure stability of direction by means of a special arrangement of fore-carriage, that is to say, to re-establish automatically the parallelism of the two axles of the vehicle when there is no tendency to keep them in any other direction, or after a temporary effort has caused them to diverge from said parallelism. [...] The axle of the fore-carriage is situated a suitable distance behind the projection of the axis of the pivot-pin in order to ensure the stability of direction above referred to."

the 914 has the front suspension of a 911... I did not see that coming!
The initial plan was to sell the car as a VW with an air-cooled Type IV four-cylinder and as a Porsche with a 911 engine.
That strategy, however, blew up at the last hour for complex reasons, and anyway, the Porsche badge has a certain honesty to it because the 914 was designed and engineered by the company.
The front suspension belongs to the 911, but in the rear, the engine sits between the two seats and rear axle, a move to avoid the back-end pendulum tendency of the rear-engined 911.

there's a company that took over Bose Ride, and is trying to make activated shock absorbers smooth out the ride for cars and trucks
“When a truck hits a pothole, it’s sensed by the Bose Ride as the floor of the cab accelerates downward,” explained Bose chief engineer Mike Rosen at the time. “The computer tells the linear actuator to provide an upward force, carrying the driver comfortably over the pothole. At the other end, the force will be pushing up, and the actuator will tell the chair to go down with the truck floor, keeping the driver level.”
The device anticipates driver and road inputs in order to stop vibrations before they occur. Less than five milliseconds after the wheels begin to move, the devices work together to counter the motion, filtering out the vibrations that instigate motion sickness and creating a much smoother ride.

The difference was stark. ClearMotion’s technology greatly smoothed the way, significantly reducing not just the movement up and down, but also the right-left lurch from bumps on either side. And while the system doesn’t make speed bumps obsolete, its goal is to become the kind of system that car owners won’t be able to live without once self-driving technology turns them from drivers into passengers.
In November 2017, ClearMotion snapped up Bose Ride, alongside an arsenal of more than 300 patents, as the company sought to become the “leading motion control company in mobility,” according to its post-acquisition statement.
The innovations since have been variations — some fairly sophisticated — on those early breakthroughs. Packard, for example, offered Torsion-Level Ride in 1955 and 1956, and Citroën famously used a four-wheel hydropneumatic suspension and automatic leveling on its innovative DS 19, also introduced in 1955. But neither system was known for reliability.
Automakers are actively pursuing the holy grail of a level ride. Mercedes, of course, offers its Airmatic air suspension as a standard feature on some models, including the S-Class, and as on option on others. Mercedes also offers a Magic Body Control system, which uses a high-precision camera to scan the road ahead and prepare the suspension components at each wheel for the surface it’s about to encounter. Keith Sharp, director of chassis engineering at Bentley Motors, said the new Bentayga sport-utility vehicle uses a 48-volt system solely to power motors on its active front and rear stabilizer bars to resist the roll motion of the vehicle.
“The system measures the disturbance of the wheel, then reduces the amount of force that would normally be driven into the vehicle itself,” he said. “The result is an increase in ride comfort.”
Sam Abuelsamid, a senior analyst at Navigant Research, said the new Audi A8 incorporates an electromechanical active suspension, enabled by the car’s standard 48-volt architecture. The system uses electric motors at all four corners, and a front camera for early detection of bumps in the road.
“It appears to do much of what ClearMotion offers, and it will also raise the side of the car if the sensors detect a pending impact,” he said. “Using sensors to look ahead for potholes can be beneficial, and that’s what Audi is doing.”

3 wheeling with a Citroen
the Citroens with self leveling hydraulic suspensions will adjust automoatically for a flat rear tire, so you actually can take one tire off those models of Citroens(DS GS CX) as long as it's in back, and or move the tires so you have both fronts full of air, and that ingenuity of hydraulics will raise that hub off the ground

the engineering advantage
having a narrow front on the Nissan Bladeglider EV is not for aerodynamic advantage, it's for lateral weight transfer advantage. About 24 inches wide, and the cornering load is shared about equally on the two front tires, in contrast to a normal wide front spacing equal to the width of the rear tire track when the outside tire attempts to control the traction under more weight transfer.
