The brothers drove the cars for a few years, before selling it to a friend, who, in the early ’70s gifted it to an aircraft mechanic who worked for the Du Ponts, Bill Hale. 1953 Abarth 1100 SS, body by Ghia, first shown at the 1953 Turin Motor Show, Best of Show Nominee at the 2015 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, sold for 900k in 2017

Following its motor show duties, the unique Ghia-bodied Abarth 1100 Sport was sold to American entrepreneur Bill Vaughn. He was greatly impressed by Italian sports cars and had hatched a plan to create fibreglass bodied replicas under his own name. For this purpose, the 1100 Sport was shown at the 1954 New York Auto Show as Vaughn SS Wildcat. Vaughn's plans never came to fruition, and the one-off Abarth disappeared from sight. It eventually resurfaced, in a rather derelict condition, in the collection of California-based sports car enthusiast Norbert McNamara.

Built from scratch in Adams' garage, the Vivant was an interesting prototype powered by a 370 cubic-inch Pontiac V8 engine and equipped with Corvette C2 suspension and Kelsey-Hayes Bonneville wheels.

The body was made of aluminum by the "Beatles of Troy, Michigan" a trio of Englishmen - Harry Kennedy, Jack Henser and John Glover - famous in the American hot rod scene for their great job. It had only one appearance at the Detroit Autorama in 1966

Sports car in Disneyland... hmmm, strange.

The car is an Abarth 207/A with chassis N. 001 and is the first of approximately ten to twelve similar cars built. There were two similarly styled road cars in the series as well, one a roadster and one a coupe.

 The owner, Dr. Karl Brigandi (Garden Grove, CA), owned this Abarth beginning 1956 and it was raced 1956 to 1958 by himself and Carmela Martin, known earlier as "Carmela Brigandi" and then "Carmela Clark".

The doctor's family held on to the car until September of 1980. My guess is that the photograph was taken circa May, 1957 when a concours was held at Holidayland and the car was in attendance.

The motor museum at Château Savigny-les-Beaune: it has a collection of cars, motorcycles, bicycles, fire engines, and airplanes

In this castle dating from the 14 thcentury, we find no less than nine collections, grouped by its owner, Michel Pont. Former racing driver on Abarth, from 1965 to 1972, finishing as well as 2nd in the 1968 French Championship, with 168 trophys, and has 30 Abarth race cars in this collection. It's the largest collection of Abarths in France

Of American jets are the F-84 Thunderjet, F-8 Crusader. Several F-100 Super Sabers, an F-86 Saber F-104 Starfighter, an F-105 Thunderchief. The USSR is represented by many MiGs: with MiG-15, MiG-19, MiG-21 and MiG-23.

The helicopters include an Alouette 2 and an H-34 and a H-19 Sikorsky.

Abarth, innovative and determined to win races

in March 1949 Abarth was founded in Bologna from the assets of  bankrupt Cisitalia.

Abarth obtained five 204 sports cars (two complete Spiders and three unfinished), a D46 single seater and various spares from the Cisitalia assets.

The 1960's Fiat Abarth 600, cooling problem, speed solution

The Abarth team was given the problem of making the Fiat 600 faster, but after putting the exhaust on it, they couldn't close the engine cover (is it a hod when the engine is behind the rear tires?) because the engine would overheat. So they propped open the engine cover.

So they tested it anyway, and learned that the car was 11 kph faster with the engine cover propped open (of course the maxed out engine helped too!)
