The 1933 Italy Graf Zeppelin series is a set of six airmail postage stamps commemorating the LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin's flight to Rome.

Happy 100th birthday to the Goodyear Blimp! (one tire company became the restaurant critic, this other, became the live aerial coverage at major events in sports arenas and race tracks, proof that companies can become celebrated outside their genre)

the portable mooring mast built on a bus wasn't a short lived operation, it was maintained over decades, above, 1969, and below in back and white, debuting the messaging lighting system, was 1949. Both busses are labeled "Airship operations"

In 1925, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., in Akron, Ohio, launched the Pilgrim -- the first in a long line of blimps that have become synonymous with hovering over and capturing live sporting events for television.

To celebrate, the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is taking its iconic airship on a tour of North America and Europe. It’s also giving fans a chance to ride in the blimp, something only 0.0006 percent of Americans can say they’ve done, according to a statement from the company.

the north hangar at the long-closed Tustin Marine Corps Air Station has caught fire, and allowed to burnt to the ground... it was 17 stories high... and hasn't been used in over 20 years for anything but tv show and movie scenes

Two hangars were built in 1942 for the air station to protect military blimps and are among the largest wooden structures ever constructed; military helicopters later parked inside them. The air station, owned by the U.S. Navy, shut down at 1999. 

 The iconic hangars, 17 stories high and 1,000 feet long, were visible for miles and been featured in television shows and films, among them “JAG,” “The X Files,” “Austin Powers,” “Pearl Harbor” and “Star Trek.”
