Greg found a cool innovation of re-using stuff in his grand fathers garage

He graduated high school in 1957, 

 bought his own farm the same year, 

proceeded to erect a barn behind house there. 

 In 1959 he built a work shop. 

In 1960 he bought a sears air compressor it has date on it, and is still in use.

And he made this hose reel!

It has a pipe union in it with a leather washer with grease on it to seal air. 

Greg says in his post that he was born in 1971, and has no idea how many times his grandfather, Greg himself, and his 2 sons, and countless neighbors pulled this hose out 

His grandfather passed away in 1999 but this thing lives on. 

The hub that the hose is rolled up on is a 4 legged John Deere logo, 5 gallon oil can.

“A few years ago, I was looking for spokes and wheels, and when I went to see them, I noticed something sticking out from under a large tarp in the garage,” he said. “It was a partially disassembled sprint car.”

Casmir's speedster has lettering for local Indiana and Illinois businesses in existence during the 1920s.

 “I have no factual history on this car, and we don’t know for sure if it was raced at Roby Speedway,” he said. “But there was no other racetrack around, and the wording (advertisements) on its sides show local companies of the time.”

Roby Speedway was a one-mile dirt track located between 108th and 112th streets in a small town named Roby, Ind., near the the Indiana/Illinois state boundary, that once drew thousands of spectators in the early days of auto racing, from 1920 to 1936

notice the unusual bars under the front axle! 

Those were required by some racetracks to prevent death and destruction if a wheel fell off or broke an axle!

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, has rolled out what it calls India’s first “table top red marking” on a highway as part of a 3 pronged method to reduce vehicles colliding with animals

At the heart of the idea is a 0.2 -inch thermoplastic red surface layer placed across a 2.0-kilometer danger zone. Officials say the bright red color and the slightly raised feel are meant to alert drivers and “naturally” bring speeds down without harsh braking.

A change in pavement texture can make you lift your foot off the gas before you consciously decide to.

NHAI is leaning into that psychology. It says the raised red surfacing provides mild tactile and audible feedback, with lower noise than conventional rumble strips

the markings are paired with 25 dedicated animal underpasses placed along the 7.4-mile corridor at identified movement locations.

The press release also describes continuous chain-link fencing along both sides of the highway, designed to prevent animals from entering the roadway and to guide them toward the underpasses.

A KitKat truck in Canada was flanked by a security escort through Toronto, on Wednesday (8 April), following the theft of more than 400,000 bars in Europe.

 Nestlé confirmed that thieves had made off with around 12 tons of the chocolate, after a vehicle carrying its new chocolates set off from central Italy bound for Poland but did not reach its final destination.

 The stolen vehicle and the merchandise remain unaccounted for.  The food giant said they are working with local authorities and supply partners to investigate.

there was a time, before the Vietnam War, when people could do about anything, business was booming, everything was made in the USA, mom n pop businesses thrived, drive ins and put put golf was hip, and if you felt like an adventure, it wouldn't cost much at all... like this one

On June 21, 1955 Sam Gray, David Rutford and Fred Hallberg begin their cruise down the Mississippi river from St Paul Minnesota on a homemade raft. 

The raft was built of barrels and planks and they drove the propeller with a 1939 Chevy with 172,000 miles, they bought for $15.

The rear wheels were fixed exactly over a junkyard rear end, with a prop mounted to it's drive shaft.

 The car’s steering wheel turned the raft’s rudder.

 In St Louis Missouri the engine needed a valve job, and outside of Memphis a bearing on the driveshaft under the raft spinning the propeller, burned out.  

The men ran low on food as they discovered a stowaway was eating their food. The stowaway was a rat. The men tried fishing for food but caught nothing the entire trip. 

Other problems encountered included mosquitoes, driftwood in the river and backwash from passing barges. 

On July 25 1955 the trio reached New Orleans, then drove the Chevy back to Minnesota, making it back to St Paul in 49 hours. The car used five gallons of oil for the return drive
