It's one of the intriguing joys of life, that as time goes by, I learn more about a specific topic, and the eventual outcome... like the tv series Space Patrol tv series, that I posted about, I just learned they took it around the country on a publicity tour, prior to giving it away

Ten-year-old Ricky Walker won the first prize in the Space Patrol TV show's Name the Planet Contest sponsored by Ralston Purina.

The grand prize was a 40-foot long rocket clubhouse on a trailer, a replica of Commander Buzz Corry’s battlecruiser, the Terra IV, and a truck to pull it. Ricky's winning name for Planet X was "Cesaria," and the Ralston Rocket clubhouse was delivered to Ricky on 12 January 1954 in the town square of his home town, Washington, Illinois.

Schwinn World Traveler bicycle were the second prizes.

Eventually the novelty wore off and Ricky’s parents sold the rocket playhouse to a traveling carnival for the sum of $1000.

In 1985 it was discovered on the property of a small construction company in Gent, New York.

Then they destroyed it and sold the metal as scrap

I should have sent in a video, not that all of these people didn't do better video production, and are more at ease in front of the camera, but I think I'm a better choice than at least the 2nd half of them. Yes these are in order of how I rank them, what about you? Who is your top choice?

I thought I'd posted about it, but it seems I haven't yet, so, here's the Petty Superbird tribute by Smithfield Foods give away car from 2017 SEMA that Mike came across. I never did see it. It's that easy to miss a car at SEMA

To pay tribute to Richard Petty’s accomplishments, and celebrate the long line of Mopars that helped carry him to greatness, Smithfield Foods commissioned Petty’s Garage to build a retro-themed, Hemi-powered Pro Touring Superbird from a donor project that had been dissassembled and forgotten for 15 years. There was so much rust, and so much work, there's no mystery why they gave up on blowing a fortune to make it right.

you can check out the entire build at http://www.hotrod.com/articles/smithfield-giving-away-superbird-clone-build-part-1/

The guy who won, Verl McCown, only entered once. His nephew was there for the event though.

The nationwide sweepstakes was advertised in Hot Rod and other magazines

He received it in March 2018 and lives in Portland, so the 1st car show he brought it to was the Portland Roadster Show. https://www.facebook.com/IWonTheKingsCar/photos/a.1999344673668884/2115235518746465/?type=3   It won Best In Class.

remember hearing about a radio station contest to win a car by keeping you hand on it the longest (it lasted 5 days in Texas)? Well, a play was made about that! It received three Tony Award nominations

What you are willing to do for your dream? Would you stand under the searing Texas sun for days with nine other strangers? Endure sleep deprivation, hallucinations and numbness of limbs for a chance to drive off the lot in a brand new truck?

This is the inadvertent question asked by the 2012 La Jolla Playhouse production, Hands on a Hardbody. Based on a 1997 documentary about a group of Texans vying to outlast each other by placing one gloved hand on brand new Nissan truck in hopes of driving off with it

The creative force behind Hands on a Hardbody consists of Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award Winning writer (and Texas native) Doug Wright, music composed by Trey Anastasia (founder of the band Phish), lyrics by Amanda Green and stage choreography by Benjamin Millepied.

The cast each have their own motivation of the same force of economic depravity. The truck, symbolizing the American Dream is the notable 16th character, which lights up, honks and moves fluidly on the stage with the characters.

Each character’s story unfolds through song. The catchy melodies and heart-felt lyrics draw the audience into their struggles. The truck means something different for each person: a one-way ticket to Hollywood; God’s will; or a means for college tuition.

there are more clips on you tube, just look on the lower right side of the web page https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=from+hands+on+a+hardbody

above is a short version of the below... you'll enjoy either, but the one below goes further into it

the below gets some info from the contestants about how they tried to use strategy on eating and what to wear on their feet.

Off to a bad start, when "the Official Rules which will be available at the start of the contest" aren't posted a week after the flyers were handed out

What I was hoping for was to find that there was a cool little contest all set and ready for me to tell you about, but there isn't.

Because at the Friday night (nov 6th) at SEMA's Ignited car show there were a dozen women handing out postcards about some "Hunt" for an Alfa 4C. You have to register to get the first clue, then try to solve the mystery of where the car is to win it.

Well, not exactly win it, even though the tag line is "First person to find it, keeps it". One of the women passing out the post cards said you don't win it, you get it for 2 years to use, then return it. See, it's getting leased from Alfa for the promo, and likely, by this new startup auto website for their use from the test drive http://www.thedrive.com/article/134 until the contest and 2 year drive is over

and the sponsor of this contest, well, looks questionable.

TI Media Solutions sponsors a lot of contests, and they give different physical locations, but never a website. The one address that says 31st floor, is also the address for Sports Illustrated Magazine.

The building at 1271 Avenue of the Americas is known as the Time Life Building, and I suspect, TI Media is Time Inc Media (TI Media Solutions Inc. 2 Associated Publishers. Time Inc. TI Media Solutions Inc found on https://sensortower.com/android/publisher/ti-media-solutions-inc/TI+Media+Solutions+Inc./ )

Time Inc., the publisher of Time, Life, Sports Illustrated, Fortune, and Architectural Forum magazines initially occupied 21 floors. http://www.placestogoinnewyork.com/places/2501660-Time-Life-Building/
