Ever heard of the concept car, the 1969 Fairlane Machette? A prototype

A modified version of the 1968 Fairlane Torino GT Fastback, the show car was created at the Ford Design Center in Dearborn, Mich. 

It has a special two-tone "pearlescent" white and silver finish. 

The unusual grille features twin horizontal black air scoops. Headlamps are concealed behind electrically operated doors. 

Roof pillars have been widened to provide additional privacy for rear seat passengers. 

Machete's taillights are flush with the lower portion of the deck panel, and concealed by white coated lenses. With light off, the taillamps are hidden, blending smoothly into the white rear panel.

It was based on the Torino, not the Fairlane, and actually was a '68 that had debuted as early as December 1967.

My paternal grandfather had one like this, and around 1987, my classmate Dan bought it from one of my uncles, after I'd went past it every time I visited my Grandmother, it was a permanent landmark at the bottom of her drive way

Found in trees dead is too common a fate for so many cars that no one had the funds to repair, when the mid 1970s had so many muscle cars dirt cheap during the OPEC oil crisis

I wonder how many muscle cars only survived the drunk drivers, rust, etc etc because they were off the road for a engine or trans problem, and forgotten?

I owned an authentic 1969 Ford Cobra ( Torino) 428 SCJ motor, modified as most teenaged cars of the times were. But, as you look closer at the attached pictures, the interior has been modified extensively as well.

In the early 70's I was a carpenter and helped friends with custom van interiors. Paneling was very popular in these custom vans. Some how I came up with idea I could lower weight by removing the rear seat and a little structure. 

Ultimately, a flat deck was constructed with paneling and being a fastback, the back window turned out to be quite nice to view stars with my girlfriend. :) Car ran high 11's in the 1/4 mile. Note, your favorite wheels of the day also :)  (slotted mags!) (Really shiny too!)
