in the wonderful fifties, service stations had fuel pump hoses that could reach the far side of a full size car

  1. I can't believe all the nitwits who try to stretch the hose to the other side instead of turning around...
I'm lucky, my fuel gauge has an arrow telling which side, so I don't look like a dummy...

    1. yup... but back in the day, there was plenty of hose to get around a car, or to get to the rear license plate fuel tank access in many cases... it cured a lot of mistakes

  2. In tight urban gas stations in Japan where space is at a premium, some station have these pull-down type pumps. We also still have full-serve stations!

  3. Yes I remember those days well, and with appreciation. And if I sound a bit patriotic I make no apologies. A nation at work and being prosperous.
