San Diego's auto swapmeet, "The Big 3" has a bit of everything... similar to a huge garage sale

A Schwinn Dragster 3 wheel tricycle. Go figure how they thought that naming a bike a dragster would be all it took to sell them.

Seeing one of these is interesting, but finding three? And notice two of them have the same fronts and hubcaps, but different lettering on the sides

Innovative way to keep the rotating mass organized!

Big variety of car and home radios

It's a Rumbler American... cool!

I'd love one of these for the garage!

Also see Tere's post... she took many more photos than I did. Through a wrong selection on her camera, many a darker than normal, but it made several turn out real cool. http://justacargal.blogspot.com/2009/02/big-3-auto-swap-meet-in-san-diego-feb.html

There is more money is merchandising than selling albums if you are iconic enough.

Speed and Mileage Meter

And if you'd like to make your own, just print these two, use your copier to reduce them to a useful size, and then use an exacto knife to remove the view window areas. Presto, you've made your self a sliding lap speed calculator.

Thanks to Newt and Tris for letting me share this with you.

Using a motorcycle as a plow... Isn't that a bad idea due to traction and temperature?

Relatively unknown, but cool place to get some tools and garage stuff!

This is and example of the bins of tools they acquired from buying up going out of business companies... they also bring a truck to Kobeys swap meet occasionally.
The above tool / shelving cabinet is for ESD stuff like circuit cards

Everyone should have a couple in the garage ( http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2009/01/million-dollar-cars-need-smarter-owners.html ) a fire extinguisher or two would have saved that Bugatti
Good to know where to find these for sale!

Here is where it leaves the tools and garage stuff, but I've used sig gens, power supplies, oscopes and all that production test equipment, so maybe some of you have too, and want to know where to get some at second hand prices.

Industrial collapsible bins

Solder inspection gear, etc etc

Torque drivers ... and that's just a quick look at some of the stuff they sell at http://www.wesource.com/ in San Diego, off Miramar Rd.
For the full list, check their website.

1902 Duesenburg. Yup, not the car, but by the car maker before he turned to automotive manufacturing

Before earning legendary status in Indy car racing and creating the mighty Duesenberg Model J motorcar in 1928, Fred Duesenberg created a motorcycle in 1902 that featured a unique rotary valve. Only one was produced before his attention turned to the new automotive industry.

Cute? Yes. Cool? Yes.

This F1 car was constructed by the Lola company and originally designed by its founder and owner, Eric Broadley for the Bowmaker Racing Team. This cartoony take on the Lola Mk4 is from the Ichiyama's Paper Cards site http://www5b.biglobe.ne.jp/~kamaboko/ I'd show you more examples... but then your mind would be blown... and we can't have that this early in the week.

Antique Fire Engines / Trucks. Cool to the second power

1937 Dennis Light Brigade used until 1969, now used as a playground fire engine. Well, sad to see it wasn't kept up, but I bet the kids think it's awesome!

1940 American LaFrance 100' Ladder Model JOX600 Series
It was originally bound for the Singapore Fire Brigade when Pearl Harbour was bombed on 7 Dec 1941. The ship put in at Fremantle Harbour and fearing Singapore may fall to the enemy, was off-loaded and commandeered by the War Dept.
Totally restored to near new condition by the members of the Western Australia Fire Brigades Historical Museum. It still has its original compliment of ground ladders and equipment and is surprisingly quick on the road.
It can be viewed at the Old No 1 City Fire Station Museum im Murray St Perth
1933 Datsun originally based in Kawasaki, a suburb of Tokyo, where it stayed in service until 1960.
In 1962 it was purchased by a sailor who was based in Yokohama, during 1962 it was handed to Nihon Kikai Limited (fire engine manufacturers) where it was restored.
In 1964 it was shipped to California, when the sailor was stationed in San Francisco. In 1967 it was moved to New York, where it stayed until his retirement in 1976.
By 1987 it was moved to Pennsylvania, but it was now in need of major restoration. In 2002 this finally happened. Sold in 2005 to a private collector

Hendrickson Motor Truck Company in Chicago.

In 1913, Magnus Hendrickson founded the Hendrickson Motor Truck Company in Chicago. Quite an innovator in his day, Hendrickson began building custom trucks including those for specialized applications such as heavy delivery, stone cranes, roofer’s hoists and scavenger bodies.

It was Hendrickson that developed and marketed the first tandem axle suspension, and was one of the first truck manufacturers to install Diesel engines. The company built its first line of fire apparatus in the 1930s, and was the first to develop and market the first tilt cab custom pumper chassis in the 1980s http://www.hmetruck.com/

The Craftsman tool shows how a machine can either be improved, or repaired, to better than original with a bit of tool know how. That center punch wouldn't be there if the machine's design had been adequate, and it's still there because it can handle the job.

No more front license plates for Wyoming hot rods, classics, and customs

A bill that has passed the Wyoming Legislature would exclude owners of classic and custom cars from having to put a license plate on the front of their vehicles.

Proponents of the measure include Steve Schaffer, owner of a baby blue 1957 Chevy Bel Air. Schaffer says he rebuilt the car from the ground up and stuck a late-model Corvette engine in it.

When he was done, the old Chevy didn't have a place for a license plate on the front of the car. Schaffer says he had to drill holes in the front bumper so he could install a license plate.

The bill is headed to Gov. Dave Freudenthal after clearing the House on Friday.

The Vetta Ventura brochure and owner's manual. Only 19 produced

After the production of the Apollo, Intermeccanica then supplied the bodies to a firm in Texas, which used them to make a car called the Vetta Ventura.

Production of the Apollo was resumed in 1964 but this venture was dead by the following year. In all 88 Apollos were made, together with 19 Vetta Venturas, and is considered a "Texas Apollo". This car is not to be confused with the Warrior, made about the same time, in the same city, by a company with a similar name. 19 vehicles were produced.
