there is a 60-foot statue of Leonardo da Vinci at the Fiumicino airport, which serves Rome, one of the busiest and largest airports in the world

World-famous Italian polymath and Renaissance man Leonardo da Vinci lent his name to the airport which derives its other name, Fiumicino, from its location.

It was in 1480 that da Vinci designed the first proto helicopter and flying machine with wings. His lifelong fascination for art and flight are some of the honors that Leonardo da Vinci – Fiumicino Airport commemorates naming their major international airport after the distinguished Italian.

In 2006, the statue, which was completed in 1960, needed renovation.

During the course of this work, one of the workers made a strange discovery: a small hatch, located at a height of about 30 feet, approximately in the middle of the statue. The hatch was carefully opened and inside were found two parchments, still in perfect condition.

One of the parchments, written in classical Latin, tells the history of the area where the airport now stands, going back to ancient times and including descriptions of the landscape that predated human development. The other parchment provided a list of the people who attended the unveiling,

It is assumed that the hatch and parchments were the work of Peikov, but whether that is true—and if it is, why he did it—remains unknown, as he passed away in 1973.

artist Nkwocha Ernest lives in Lagos Nigeria, graduated from Auchi Polytechnic, and makes incredibly good sculptures from used tires His sculptures went viral after his art was shared on twitter.

The Nigerian artist then decided to do something about this waste. He started by creating small parts with the tire material and wanted to show Nigeria that he could create something out of nothing, and he was posting on his personal facebook page what he was doing.

"Snow Train" - one of many entries at the Budweiser International Snow Sculpture Championships at Breckenridge, Colorado (coming again in Jan 21-30 2019)

Above seems to be from a different festival in Harbin China, and the image was hijacked on Facebook to represent this Breckenridge event. https://amazingezone.com/amazing-sculptures/gigantic-snow-sculptures-at-harbin-china/

During the Breckenridge International Snow Sculpture Championships, 16 teams from around the world descend on Breckenridge, Colo. to hand-carve 25-ton blocks of snow into enormous works of art.

From blocks of snow, into intricate snow sculptures. Artists are only allowed to use hand tools, creativity, and inspiration to bring their ideas to life. No power tools allowed! Teams sculpt countless hours across five days –the result is a temporary outdoor art gallery in historic downtown Breckenridge.

450 volunteers were needed to construct this S-Series Combine from cans of food.
The construction of this project required 1,800 hours of work in a span of 6 days.
