Ca. Assemblyman Jim Patterson is focused on the Ca. DMV's many problems, and is getting the word out how screwed up it's become, despite additional funding

Patterson says his office phone has been ringing non-stop. Truckers here in the Valley tell Patterson the DMV is backlogged for at least six weeks to renew their required driving permits to transport goods in the state.

"The DMV's response was that's as fast as we are going to be able to do it and if we can't get it done by the time you need it then you will have to shutdown your operation."

The DMV has yet to respond to the reported backlog and Patterson says they have ignored his calls

Assemblyman Jim Patterson said the DMV promised to increase operating hours including Saturdays, and less crowding and waiting for customers. Despite an increased budget to accomplish that, Patterson says the DMV has failed to deliver its promises.

The troubled agency admitted on Thursday they may have botched renewals for tens of thousands of customers, despite it's good intentions.

They were trying to cut down wait times by encouraging people to renew their licenses earlier, several months in advance. But their computer system malfunctioned.

The DMV's latest technological glitch? It starts sending out driver's license renewal notices 120 to 150 days before a license expires.

But the online system can only process payments 115 days before the expiration.

As a result, thousands of people paid, but haven't received anything in the mail.

"The DMV is more interested in making excuses than they are in making changes, and this is just one of the big glitches," said Assemblyman Jim Patterson (R-Fresno).

In the last several months, DMV officials have come clean about mishandling voter registration information for 23,000 drivers and double registering as many as 77,000 people. The latest bombshell? As many as 1,500 ineligible voters were registered, including an unknown number of non-citizens.

Secretary of State Alex Padilla, who has been personally notified of each these major errors by the DMV director. Six months of apathy passed before he began to show concern about public confidence in the electoral process.

The replacement of top-level management at DMV should have already happened. The first reports of unbearable eight-hour wait times and nine-hour computer system outages were reason enough to call for a change. And yet somehow, the architects of the Real ID and Motor Voter plans are still at the helm of this sinking ship.

40% of all calls to the DMV never get through the wait and reach a person... regularly the wait time is 5 hours long

I've heard of the Optimist club, and the Soroptimist Club, but I've never heard of the Opti-Mrs. Clubs before. This little hobby of mine is a huge source of new info for me

Since Optimist International began, no women were allowed to join the service organization.

So they formed their own club which helped disabled children.

The women had been participating in the same activities as their male counterparts, but they did not receive the same benefits, said Marilyn Frank, former member of Opti-Mrs. and new member of the Optimist Club.

The club sponsored the Blind Olympics and Heads Up, a therapeutic service for disabled children. The group's largest annual fund-raiser, "The Festival of Trees," made about $18,000 one year to support two boys and girls homes.

"Being able to help these wonderful kids made our efforts in Opti-Mrs. worthwhile," said Joann Knifton, charter member of Opti-Mrs. and vice president of the new Optimist chapter in Newhall.

"Before we became actual members, we got nothing," she said. "Now we will not only receive recognition, but we will also get a $5-million insurance policy to cover us on things like fund-raisers." Gadbury said the Optimist chapter in Newhall, one of five chapters in the area, will accept male members because to not do so would be "hypocritical." However, she said the 36-member Santa Clarita Valley Optimist Club of Newhall chapter has received no applications from men. (as of 1987)

As industrialization and urbanization brought many new problems to society, citizens began forming voluntary organizations to address the needs of their communities. In some areas, groups took the name “optimist club” to express their desire for a positive outlook in the face of all these problems. The first official Optimist Club was formed in Buffalo, New York, in 1911.

Impetus for a nationwide Optimist movement began when the Optimist Club of Indianapolis, Indiana, was formed in May 1916. Envisioning a nationwide organization, founders of the Indianapolis club moved ahead in the summer of 1916 to start Optimist Clubs in many other major cities.

These clubs quickly grew to more than 100 members each. As a result, a national conference of the American clubs took place in 1917 in Indianapolis.

To develop optimism as a philosophy of life utilizing the tenets of the Optimist Creed; to promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs; to inspire respect for the law; to promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people; to aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well-being of humankind, community life and the world.

Bruce Canepa'd first car was a 29 Model A, and he's raced IMSA and Trans Am circuits, and the Daytona 24 hours with Bobby Rahal and Rick Mears. He also has had a huge success at Pikes Peak, setting the course record in 2000 and 2001, and ran a race truck up in 2002 setting a tandem axle record of 13:57, breaking the previous 13:59... and he still holds the record now.

Good video!
