Nov 18th, 1985, the first Calvin and Hobbes was published... 34 years ago. Feel old yet? Or just sad that Waterson only wanted to make it for 10 short years?

if you didn't know, the boxed set of all the Calvin and Hobbes hardcover books is available for about 60 dollars on Amazon. I got one about 17 years ago, they are terrific if you're a fan, or a great xmas gift if you know a fan

And it seems TSKB, also known as Me Ru Mo, has also gave up and shut down. No longer posting new stuff, after 4210 pages.

So long TSKB, you were a great page to browse and enjoy, the internet won't be any damn good without you, your time here was too short, and unfortunately, whoever ran that site never used their name, said who they were, or why they were posting.

When trying for a world record... expect to crash. A lot.

Johannes Fischbach wanted to make the world's longest jump with a mountain bike off a 140-metre ski jump

Some years ago Fischi already made test jumps from an 85 meter ski jump and reached a distance of 50 meters.

Why didn't he have some EMT's at the bottom?

here is a video, skipping the build of the extension to the ski jump, of the practice runs

Slovenian cyclist Janez Brajkovic has shown off the shocking state of his legs following his comeback race after serving a doping ban and battling bulimia.

Brajkovic shocked fans after he uploaded a picture of his leg after a comeback race following his doping ban.

He was suspended back in July 2018 for 10 months after testing positive for methylhexaneamine, but returned in the CRO race in Croatia earlier this month.

He posted photos showing the state of his legs after the race, where every muscle and vein is seemingly visible.

A local sports doctor, Natasa Desnica, the official doctor of the Croatian ski team, explained why Brajkovic’s leg looks like that after the 10-month ban.

“In this sport, this is a normal occurrence and on several occasions

"I have seen cyclists shortly after three weeks of cycling races in France, Italy and Spain, who looked like him.

"Their legs were incredibly tiny, with no subcutaneous fat, and they were even dehydrated, so every bone could be seen as well as veins on the face and body, and you could see every single muscle like on an anatomical atlas.

“Fortunately, the cyclist recovers from this condition relatively quickly, his appearance normalises, it is only a matter of how such cycles have a lasting effect on health."

Brajkovic, who in 2004 won the World Under-23 Time Trial championship, finished in 38th place in his comeback race where he represented the Adrial Mobil team

Harney country Oregon is larger than new Hampshire, but only has 7300 residents. That means it has a lot of dirt roads for mountain biking, and wouldn't mind some tourism

Billed as “America’s gnarliest gravel race,” the route takes advantage of remote dirt roads and goat tracks to lead riders on a memorable adventure in the Malheur National Forest northwest of Burns.

Eastern Oregon’s vast high desert country is an adventure cyclist’s dream, with a network of thousands of miles of remote, traffic-free, interconnected roads, paths, and primitive trails circulating through almost 5 million acres of public lands

The route traverses virtually every type of terrain a backcountry bike racer could ask for: down washboard roads snaking through forest; over desert jeep trails gently curving toward the horizon; through small rock gardens and dry stream beds; past spring fed wetlands and over vacant coyote dens; through nearly three dozen cattle guards and two stream crossings

check out this 1940s racing Vittoria Margherita! chain tensioner, derailer, and whatever these are. I posted stills, but see the video past the link

This system has rod-controlled arms on the chainstay which are moving the chain when the rider backpedals. It is simple and easy and certainly much better then the alternative of getting off the bike then removing, flipping and replacing the rear wheel. The system is reliable and the tension wheel leaves just enough ground clearance, an important consideration in an era of bad roads. Unlike more fragile gear changing systems which were on the market in the 1930s and 1940s, the Vittoria still worked when clogged with the clay of the road.
