this is the latest National Historic Vehicle Association feature vehicle, that will appear on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. to be displayed and preserved throughout history as the 26th car on the HVA registry
The 1966 Volkswagen Deluxe Station Wagon was originally owned by Esau and Janie B. Jenkins, Civil Rights pioneers who dedicated their lives to helping the people of Johns Island, South Carolina, and beyond.
A historic and visual part of the story of civil rights pioneers seeking prosperity in a time of adversity in the racially charged times of the late 60s, in the South East, and is still owned by the Jenkins family.
The Jenkinses drove the VW extensively until October 1972, when, as a passenger in another vehicle, Mr. Esau was severely injured in a car accident. He died on October 30, and the VW was soon parked in the garage. When the family home was enlarged in 1974, the Jenkinses moved the VW into the back yard, where it began a long, decaying slumber. Mrs. Janie just couldn’t let it go.
Over the following decades, exposure to the elements, the salt air of the island, and multiple hurricanes took their toll on the VW. Corrosion set in, the right front door rusted off completely, and the A-pillar collapsed. The bus gradually sank into the earth. Long after Mrs. Janie’s death in August 1998, the old VW bus sat.
B.R. Howard and Associates, Inc. and The NB Center for American Automotive Heritage have been entrusted us to stabilize the condition of the "Microbus" to bring it out of the yard it had sunk into after being parked that one last time.
"This microbus became a fixture in the South in the 1960s as the Jenkinses, a family that went above and beyond to change their community and the nation for the better, made major strides in their community to combat racial inequality, were successful entrepreneurs, and inspired numerous civil rights leaders, including Martin Luther King, Jr.,” Maxon says.

Uh oh... the secret is out, there's a ridiculous demand for good VW vans, and was no supply once the collectors went nuts on hippie van collecting. There's finally a solution, a new supply of
The much anticipated Bus Body Skeleton is now available for pre-order. Production starts this fall with the first deliveries in late 2019/early 2020. Each one will be built and shipped in the order that they are placed. A $1000 deposit is required
There's a catch, though—in order to complete your project and register your new-old bus for street use in all 50 states, you'll need to plop it on an existing, original van chassis with its own VIN. Classic Steel Body says that depending on the state, you could also source your own non-original chassis and register it as a newly-assembled kit vehicle.

a million years ago before Bob Dylan was a celeb, he was out walking in the snow with his girlfriend for a album cover photo shoot
odd as the truth is, Bob Dylan wrote and performed one of my favorite Hendrix songs, All Along the Watchtower, and though Bob's version sucks ditch rocks, Hendrix was so impressed with the entire album, that Dylan wrote while recuperating from a motorcycle accident, that he insisted on covering one of the songs, and AAtW wasn't his 1st choice.

the Magic Bus
a 1965 Volkswagen T1 Panel Van which was to be raffled in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust. The Magic Bus was specially branded with iconic images of the band and personally signed on the sun visors by Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend.
Inspiration for raising vital funds for the Trust stemmed from a collaboration between Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and The Who, culminating in a special live performance by the band at the 60-year celebrations of the VW Bus in Hanover, Germany in October 2007.
The Magic Bus competition was launched in April 2008 by Roger Daltrey at the Teenage Cancer Trust’s legendary Royal Albert Hall shows and since then the Magic Bus has toured the country and acquired an international fan base. Over eight thousand raffle tickets were sold and more than £28,000 was raised for the charity.
A new JVC stereo CD player with four Ministry of Sound speakers, this can accommodate an ipod and has Bluetooth function.
Seven twin anchor point seat belts have been fitted. A leisure battery with split charge system. An interior strip light and two push top LED lights.
The Magic Bus is adorned in the artwork of renowned graphic artist Richard Evans. Richard is art director to The Who and has worked closely with the band for well over thirty years creating album covers and tour designs. The images of the band he has selected for The Magic Bus represent The Who through their forty year career at the forefront of modern music.

with a 1977 VW van, a hopeful restaurateur took his creations on the road, and serves only a handful of people at a time his cocktails and entrees
in the summers, they take the show on the road: https://www.instagram.com/ggnchan/
in the winters, he works at New York speakeasy Angel's Share
in 2016, he won the prestigious Bacardi Legacy Competition
The USBG Legacy Cocktail Showcase, a.k.a. Bacardi Legacy, is easily one of the most recognized bartending competitions in the world. Unlike competitions that prize over-the-top, imaginative and often complex concoctions, Legacy highlights the drinks that could one day become the Cuba Libres, daiquiris and mai tais of our generation: modern-day classics that will withstand the test of time, with recipes that can be easily replicated at bars around the world. A victory at Legacy is one of the highest honors that someone in the craft cocktail industry can achieve — and this year, it went to a bartender who’d never set foot on a competition stage before.
In fact, Gn Chan wasn’t even planning on entering the competition when he first developed the recipe for his winning drink: it was all part of a friendly staff competition at Angel’s Share, where he works. “It started as an assignment in our bar; everyone had to make a drink using Bacardi Legacy standards,” says Chan, who started developing his recipe in early spring of 2015. “The hard part is, you have to choose [ingredients] that everyone can easily get, and you have to represent your story,” he says.
