testing the wings

  1. Hi Jesse,
    Notice how the wing is expected to carry a much heavier load upright than inverted, about 4g and 2g respectively for standard aircraft. They are usually designed (and tested) to a 50% greater load before ultimate failure, so a 2,000b aircraft would be tested to 2,000 x 4, plus 50% = 12,000lb. Unlimited aerobatic machines run as high as 12g, but the problem then is overload of the pilot rather than the machine. Cheers, Tony
