there was a time in the USA when racism was so prevalent that blacks and whites were not allowed to use the same public services, and this is the 1st time I've seen or heard that taxis were included in that

this was in Georgia of course.

  1. Trains, buses... taxis. I'm in the same time surprised and not surprised. I have no idea if I can ever wrap my head around that part of US history, it's so surealistic. I remember interview of one old soldier, part of I Polish Corps. He got a cultural shock when he saw how US officers treat black soldiers, that there is a racial segregation in US Army. He remember how British officers treat Indian soldiers with strong dose of superiority complex over them, but nothing in form of sometimes just open contempt toward black grunts. After the war when he came back to Poland he heard stories how Nazis treat Jews, closed ghettos, segregated train carriages, segregated trams for Germans only and Jews only. The similarity of such segregation did shock him... how Americans fight for Freedom when there is no Freedom in US?

I hope that those rather black pages will stay in history and we will see the "Someone" Only Cabs only on old photographs.

    1. Thank you! I was pondering whether or not to share this, as so may people are easily offended by history, and facts... and like some guy who just insulted me and left because of another post, I didn't want to trigger anyone who comes to see what I've posted lately in hopes of being entertained.
I decided to post this, as it's the first I've ever seen a taxi with the segregation.
So, in the way that the unusual vehicles deserve to get shared, this certainly met the requirement.
The historical racism that all humanity seems to have had against some other group, I'd forgotten was so world wide until you brought up some examples, and I am happy to know you live somewhere that isn't still wallowing in racist beliefs like the USA does.
To answer your question, it's a very odd thing to look at the facts, and the "freedom" that people perceive in the USA, where there is so little.
The USA is very hypocritical on so many issues, and freedom is the worst.
Do you know of another country that still has reservations for the indigenous? Australia.
Or who imprisoned lawful citizens based on race during WW2? The USA did that to Japanese, Italians, Chinese, and Germans during WW2.
The only rights you have are the ones you'll achieve after taking the govt to court in a lawsuit that lasts years.
I often post about stuff like that when it relates to driving.
The Hirohata Merc? Bob Hirohata was sent to an internment prison camp.
That's just one example. I've posted hundreds.
Life's not easy, not fair, and there isn't much freedom.
You can't visit national parks unless you pay. Pay to visit the national parks taxpayers are funding.
You may have read that they sold the parking meters in Chicago. Taxpayer funded roads, metered by foreign country companies, but ticketed by american police.
Anyway, The British, they hated the Australian Aborginals, they hated the American colonists, the Indian natives, etc etc.
Americans? We wiped out natives, made treaties that were not honored, then force marched - like the Burma WW2 POW march, the natives across country to "reservations" and deprived them of their language, life, liberty and freedom.
We took over Hawaii from the natives.
We did go wipe out the Japanese empire, and the Nazi's and made the world a bit better though... and had open border until around WW1 or WW2. Immigrants only had to show up to get waved in. No matter where they were from.
But at the same time, blacks were so set apart it's ridiculously evil.
So, yeah, nothing makes any sense.
And the brits might have been tough on the Indians, but they murdered the Australian aboriginals, and don't look up human zoos. Not unless you are bulimic.
Germans wiped out jews, America wiped out natives, the french killed Vietnamese, the Japanese rape of Nanking is a legendary atrocity, then there's the Ottomans Empire commiting genocide of the Amenians, and the Belgians made slaves of the Congo natives, oh that's a bad one... not easy to read about.
The world history of genocides is all about racism. The only people to never fall to colonialism were a tribe in the Philippine Island Mountains. Fierce, and fought off everyone.
By the way, another example, that is currently going on right today? Israel and the muslims. The Jews have become the Nazis to the Palestinians. See the documentary The Gatekeepers.
Racism is still around, and always will be while different ethnicities are forced to tolerate each other. Illegal immigration is one example of that, and the Syrian muslims that moved to Germany, Sweden, etc are proof. So are the migrant workers in California from Mexico

    2. We have our own dose of racism and xenophobia, especially in last years it is on the rise. But in more than a thousand year of our history as nation, we did not "play" in to slavery. The closest thing we had was different forms of socage that stay in one way or other for most of that time. Some could argue that it is almost a slavery... well, almost make the large difference in that case. We got our own Black Pages, hard to not get some in more than thousand year of history. Some try to play "saint" card, pretending or even insisting that we had been always prefect good guys and everybody was bad. Full load of BS that is, history did not spoiled uu, that's true but we had been some nought buys from time to time.

And about blacks, in old Warsaw Pact times we had pretty popular response when Americans brag about something. "And you are lynching Negroes"... we got that from Russians. It had that sound of superiority in it, as much fuck up we can be... at least we don't beat/lynching our citizens. Ridiculous thing I must ad when with all terrifying Gulag system, Soviets still feel cultural superior to Americans because they don't "beat negros". Crazy... absolutely crazy.

    1. Click the link. That link at the bottom of every post? That's where I found the thing I am posting, and it takes you to the original info. I rarely repeat everything at the source, just the bit that I want to share, to make it fast and easy to get the importance of the photos or story, but if you want more info, click those links and see what the source had.
Also, Only a few states were so racist as to get segregated and right in your face about it with zero shame. Georgia, Alabama, Missouri... those are the big 3. Florida was never a red neck state, things like that narrow the choices as to what bunch of South will rise again - jingle a dixie tune car horn -dip spitting- sister kissing- lynch mob morons there are to select from.
Anywhere with a fat ol white elected official that smoke cheap cigars and calls everyone "boy", and has a white 20 gallon hat? yeah, that.

  3. It seems strange that in 2019, upon turning 18, men are required to register with Selective Service but women are not. Trans-men are not required to register either. And we mostly just accept it the same as "white only" taxi cabs used to be accepted. Go figure.

    1. there was a bit of talk in the news about getting women to register last year, but just like so much from Washington DC, nothing came of it. There was no military parade either, for example.
By the way, we ignore that reservations still exist, and though native americans can live anywhere, they CHOOSE to remain living on the res. Go figure.

    1. the world is a harsh place... in our lifetimes arpartheid was happening in South Africa, it's still this way in Israel for Palestinians, native Americans still live on reservations, and whites can't get on stage with a rap group and sing a song with the word nigger in it, as though speaking the word nigger can equal the physical restrictions of the whites only faucets, entry to theaters, seating on busses, and other Jim Crow laws.
The fact is, racism is so prevalent, no black has been elected to statewide office in Mississippi in 130 years, and blacks have been the largest population of any state since before the civil war there.
