Did you know who made the Taurus SHO engine? Not Detroit

Yamaha.

Seems when Detroit needs a better engine, they go somewhere else for it.

The 1990 ZR1 Corvette got an engine made in partnership between Lotus and Mercury Marine engines. GM owned Group Lotus at the time, had them design it, and had MM of Oklahoma build it, and ship the LT5 to Kentucky for installation

  1. sad but true.
GM cant even design a transmission anymore, they have to have a different company design and build them.

at least Dodge didnt try to fool the public into thinking they designed the diesel thats available in their trucks,

the diesel thats in the Fords was really an International Harvester,
and the diesel in the chevy pickups is really an Isuzu engine

Harley had to get a german company to design one of their new engines.

GM has entire cars that are designed and developed off shore through their GM Korea (Daewoo) subsidiary such as the Cruze, Aveo/Sonic, and Spark.

It's too bad they didn't hang on to the Yamaha and develop it more. The Pontiac Vibe had a Toyota engine.

  3. I believe that the same arrangement was made for the Probe GT engine: Yamaha.
