I used to work on a lot of TVRs. I had a good idea what the parts were off of. Call the parts place and order say a BMC for a TR6 (Fits 2500 M,etc through 79) They would insist on knowing what year,or something. Man, you don't want to know,just sell me a TR6 part...Around and around we would go.
Oh yeah, so true! Try finding a radiator hose for a hot rod (or any car) with an engine conversion at a parts store. There were times where I talked the counter guy into letting me look through the racks for a hose or a fuel line for something that will work. If you don't have a specific year, model, and sometime even serial number, you are out of luck.
Back a few years ago, I had myself a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback. The Lancer Sportback was a one year model here in the states... I cant remember if it was a rear wiper that I was looking for or something else... I went to my local NAPA, and told them what I had and what I was looking for... The response that I got "Are you sure about the model" I told him to take a look over my shoulder to the car sitting there... I told him I was sure... I ended up going to the dealer.

ReplyDeleteMy Chevrolet Opala is 1974, but dash instruments and glass came from a 1980, the engine from a 1990, diff 1992, suspension 1989 and wheels 1978.
