Winifred Wells was 21, when on 26 December 1950 she embarked on her solo and epic journey from Perth to Sydney on a Royal Enfield Bullet 350 (31,000th post)

Solo back-to back transcontinental rides put Winifred Wells on the map but her full circuit of Australia confirmed her eminence among Australia’s moto pioneers. Winifred was 21, when on 26 December 1950 she embarked on her solo and epic journey from Perth to Sydney return across the unsealed and lonely roads of the Nullarbor.

She received a hero’s welcome when she arrived back in Perth after 5,500 miles in 21 days. She went on to achieve the “big-lap” of Australia alongside her father in 1952.

She married in the 1970s, and in 2006 was traced by a TV show named "Can We Help" who was tasked with seeing if they could locate this famous motorcycle pioneer, and they did! She lives in Tasmania, aged 67ish, and was thrilled that her story is still of interest!  http://www.slwa.wa.gov.au/pdf/knowit277.pdf

    1. Hey, c'mon... it makes my day to find and share this stuff with incredible feats of daring do! Well, my job here is done, I must be off! There's gotta be some caffeine around here in the form of a cold coke or can of coffee! Say, you don't live in a country with Georgia brand bottled coffee, do you?
