Some people have asked, and I found out what's up... Go Away Garage blogger closed the blog, and put out the sign "GO AWAY"

A couple guys asked me (heck, what do I know? I'm just a car guy! I dunno jack) and so today when Mario asked, I dig a little digging....

Go-Away Garage Gone. Kaputt.
Ixnaed. No more.
Leave the kumpooter and go work in your garage.

Is what he wrote on his Facebook page, off to the side.

See, on Sept 10th he had an auction and sold off his shop, and lotsa stuff in it. Maybe everything.

And from the note, and the sign that says no texts, I'm guessing Mitch was really fed up with tech and people. Maybe I'm wrong, but he seems to have carried out his intent he wrote about on his blog

"The Go Away Garage is a real garage in Wichita Kansas. Mitch Willis started out building custom hot rods on West Street and now builds motorcycles at the joint on Commerce St., where the garage has been for more than a dozen years. When Willis needed privacy to devote to his projects, he’d put up a 4-foot-by-8-foot sign that said “Go Away." The name stuck. Thus the Go Away Garage.

It's self prophetic, that he has always said he would close the shop and put up the sign "Go Away" and name his site the GAG if you use the acronym.

Maybe the guy was just more damn clever than we ever realized!

    1. Thanks! I won't be blogging forever, but I won't go out like GAG. That was bullshit. Shutting it all off and going away was fucked up. Those guys like me that can't look at a site every day and keep up to date, but now and then catch up all at once don't even get to do that when a guy just closes down a site.

    2. One year later, I'm still here. It was a close thing though a couple times. Lets see if I'm still here in 2018

  2. Well bummer. The Go Away was one of my favorite sources of entertainment and will be missed. The good & simple sites are getting rather thin.

    1. a couple go away ever year, and the heyday was back in 2009, 2010. There aren't any guys joining up and making new sites anymore. Maybe they are saving their efforts for the next best thing, or maybe they are smarter, and doing something to make money instead of entertaining for free. Seriously, all the effort over the last 10 years I've been doing this have been a bad idea if looked at in terms of getting ahead in the world and making some road to retirement. The Go Away cashed out, sold the business, and shut down the site to have a better life, and less time on the computer. Maybe he's the smart one. Just like life, enjoy the good days, and come along for the ride, because there are no guarantees, and it can all be lost tomorrow. Me, I'm going to enjoy SEMA, and the next two weeks are going to be full of cool stuff from SEMA.

    1. For a while longer at least. Thanks! I pretty much spelled it out in the responses to the other comments, it's just a thing we do for now, like everything in life. It's all temporary, and goes through stages. I'm haveing fun doing this for now, but soon I need to spend more time getting a better paying job, and doing something that makes money and doesn't use up my spare time.

  4. I drove by the Go Away Garage once, many years ago. It was around the corner from my dad's antique store. He had some really cool cars out there with faces embossed in the hood.

mitch willis, owner of the go away garage here.
i owe no one an explanation for shutting down the blog, we did not "cash out", simply relocated to more practical and secluded location.
please understand that my intentions are not to offend but i really need to say here, "go away". i got work to do you nosy bastards.

    1. Former owner. Maybe you're right. Maybe your fans are. They admired your work, and were smacked in the face with a "blog shut down" one day, outta the blue. Whatever they admired was stripped from them, rudely. Maybe that means very little to the guy that was entertaining them for free, but they seem to be a bit jilted. You know that I wish you, and your fans the best, and am glad you built up cool stuff and moved onto something else you'll enjoy more. But letting down your fans wasn't cool. Maybe you'll see that the way I do, and they do. If not, no worries, we all move on eventually and are forgotten

    2. Well said Jesse. Mitch, from what I see, doesn't really give a damn. Probably never did. That's to bad, there were a lot of things I liked about the blog, a some thing I didn't, but that's the way blogs are. Mostly opinion. I would leave comments now and then, to which I would get little to no reply. But that's the way it goes, and I'm okay with it. I see you struck kit from your "Recommended sites", that's good. Out of sight, out of mind. To you Jesse, I just can only say thanks for your devotion and sharing it with us.

    3. thanks. I've went on a couple rants myself.... well, things happen to get under your skin. I only removed it from my list because it no longer exists. There is nothing there, and no reason to take a place on my recommended list, not because of anything anyone had to say. I take all the dead sites down off my list when they shut off the content access that we once enjoyed. If he'd left it up, I'd still have GO Away Garage on my list, I liked that site. You're welcome. One o these days, lets go get a cold liquid refreshment and shot the breeze about cars!

    4. Brother if I lived closer, or vice versa, getting together for a cold one and talking cars would be great. Maybe some day. I see I made a couple mistakes in my comment, but you get the gist of what I am saying. Again, love your blog and the great work you do, if for nothing else just for the love of "All things with wheels that are cool." ;)
