what is the windmill mission symbol on the Vampin Vera representing?

  1. A bombing raid on Holland maybe?

  2. Maybe a reference to a 'windmilling' propeller.

  3. Windmills are not just in Holland, and they are an important part of the infrastructure; providing power, milling, and pumping water against it's natural flow. A windmill would be a worthy target, especially if it was the main support for a garrison of enemy troops.

  4. Bombers supported Operation Market Garden by dropping supplies to ground troops in September 1944, and it looks like Vampin' Vera took part in one of these "trucking missions." I'm guessing the windmill refers to that.

    2. Looks like it! This site gives an account of the resupply effort of a different bomber group and some of the losses they took. https://www.b24.net/MM091844.htm
