Sikorsky S-38A amphibious airplane in 1930... interesting design

but not as cool looking as the Sikorsky P 40 http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2016/07/wow-lot-of-cool-happening-in-this-1931.html

Somehow Steve came across the Pan Am version with a slightly more aero upper nose

Thanks Steve!

  1. Since you like flying boats, this one may be of interest:

With the benefit of hindsight, one could reasonably argue that the Caproni Ca.60 was aerodynamically, technically and aesthetically incorrect. But on the other hand it shows humankinds' most defining and endearingtrait: Our incredible optimism.

    1. I believe that was the plane that inspired the inventor of the Japanese Zero... did you see the studio Ghibli movie about it? Very good movie.
That plane that inspired the Japanese guy was a Caproni I'm pretty sure. But I haven't seen the movie in a while, so my memory is too fuzzy for a good comparison

  2. You remembered correctly. Wonderful movie, albeit different from his other ones which seems to appeal to all age groups. Speaking of which, the other Studio Ghibli movie with planes is 'Porco Rosso'. Don't miss it....
