clever bike rack design in Scotland at the Holyrood building, the Scottish parliament

  1. Why is it clever?

The most prominent thing in your photo is that no one is using it to lock a bike to.

Just another over expensive, useless feature of the Holyrood Parliament.

    1. clever, to me, because of the shapes, when seen looking down a row of them, as the 2nd photo shows, is that of a composite of 4 of the racks, making the shape of a bike. Form, follows function, you may have heard of that phrase.
I am not into politics of where ever this is, I don't like politicians. I like cool bike racks.
No, there are none in use at the time of the photo, and if you weren't a grumpy bugger, you'd admit that the necessity of getting 4 of them empty, and by contrast the entire area empty to show how they mean nothing alone, means that the photographer COULD NOT have them in use at the time he took the photo.
Damn, lighten the hell up, and tell the politicians they are wasting resources, not me.
I didn't slap you with taxes, I showed you art, clever, intelligent, art. And bike racks.
Go away til you can cope with what I bring as a favor to you, and maybe seperate nice people, like me, from assholes in govt.

    2. It isn't "form follows function" though, is it, Jesse?

      It doesn't do the function.

I'd give you that it can be called an artwork.

But it's no more a bike rack, than a parking space with a grid of 6 inch nails is a parking space.

    3. has it been 6 years already?
Well, it looks (all I have are these photos, not the budget to travel there and test for myself) like they will suffice for locking a bike to. Then if I'm correct, and you haven't proven otherwise, nor can I prove you wrong, I suppose that they do the function. So, it's been 6 years, and you stumbled across this again to what, taunt me that I posted something interesting that does not satisfy you? I have 57,000 other posts. I do hope you will take a moment, and look at a couple, I hope you either choose "humor" https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/search/label/humor
      or the "awesome" https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/search/label/awesome
but if you don't, and have given up on my ability to entertain you, then go on to enjoy the holidays, hopefully vacation days off work, and spend time with some friends who will cheer you up and take you away from the same day after day work routine we all fall into

    4. Hi Jessie.

Thanks for the reply. I think it's great that you blog photos, and I'm due to go back to Edinburgh some time next year - so I'll revisit these.

I love these slow internet conversations; sometimes I want to show someone a photo of artistic cycle stands, and you dominate the search string I use.
