she is VERY excited, as she repeats a couple times, to learn how to drive truck with her dad

That's a lot to listen to and figure out while on the move, for someone without a lot of driving experience.

  1. Someone please tell that there is no such thing as a "semi truck". That is a "road tractor" or just Truck pulling a "semi trailer". The term SEMI refers only to a trailer that has wheels at one end and is supported by the truck at the other. A "full" trailer is self supporting. Words have defined meanings.

    1. I'll leave it to the Cambridge educated to define the terms, as I'm just a car guy, but the way I grew up, with truckers in the extended family, was calling them semis, or semi trucks, and that may simply be a local lingo thing, a colloquialism (if you'll pardon me knowing a Cambridge education level word).
I haven't heard the term road tractor.
A semi trailer is certainly the right term for the trailer pulled by a semi.
But hey, I grew up watching BJ and the Bear.

  2. She's too short to reach the clutch. Literally has to stand on it. But give her credit for getting the job done.

  3. I think that she did great, and as for it being a semi truck? how can it not be, an ice cream truck hauls ice cream so then a semi truck must haul a semi trailer. my opinion.

  4. Well, for me that's an accident waiting to happen ! Just as in a car, the driver should know instinctively where ALL controls are located well prior them getting on the road and needing them in a hurry.

  5. I second Volksrob! A cute girl, but totally irresponsible on the part of whoever is in the cab with her! Did she have any idea how to stop that loaded truck in an emergency? Or what to do if a steer tire blew? Scary stuff.

    1. I disagree, about your "totally irresponsible on the part of whoever is in the cab with her" because it's her dad. His truck, his tutelage, and his insurance, on empty roads. You'd have realized that if you'd read the title of the post instead of assessing her cute factor. tsk tsk. Does she know how to stop it? uhhhhh like, use the brakes? I expect she's familiar with brakes. Steer tire blowing out.... hang on and try to slow down without sharp turns? Yeah, I think you're underestimating everyone else's basic understanding, of basic stuff. Ease up a little on the hysterics? Sheesh! I'm guessing you also wanted to question her having "any idea" how to avoid driving into a wall, tornado, or superman. I believe you'll see sarcasm used to illustrate how I think you're over reacting with emergencies that simply aren't likely to happen on a short drive with her dad, or with any ordinary day where emergencies and blow outs simply don't occur but a couple days out of a lifetime.
So lighten up Francis. Just a little. Just enjoy the blog, quit freaking out.
