The Lanchester was a rather unusual car, although Frederick Lanchester put a lot of thought into his design, but the rear entrance tonneau body style was quite common in the early years when chassis were quite short and some models had chain drive as well, and there was nowhere to put an access door to the rear seats except at the back.
