Harz mountains, not sure why they would leave an engine sitting in the middle of nowhere, unless it broke down, it looks like they dumped the water before shutting it down because the tracks were solid ice where it was stopped.
Ah ha! That makes sense, I was wondering why it broke down, and why they were chipping ice off the tracks, but it all makes sense now. Of course they'd have to drain the water to prevent breaking the tank, water jacket, cooling system, etc when the engine finally cooled down enough to allow the water to freeze
