the 63 Z11 Impala had aluminum fenders and hood.

I had forgotten all about posting about this car before, (only 6 months ago https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2017/01/the-z11.html ) and only had Mopars with aluminum panels in mind when reading Hagerty's article.

  1. Yeah you Mopar guys didn't know the Chevy and Ford were using every trick in the book to improve performance. I remember Tasca Ford out of RI, having the latest from Ford in the cheat... er, lightweight column.

    1. instead of me tying it all over again, see the replies below. I'm just losing it. I've posted a lot about Tasca, factory light weights, aluminum panel and hinges, FAST factory appearing - stock tire racers, factory race cars, super stockers, etc etc etc. I simply can't remember shit anymore. Well, it sucks, but I'm going to carry on anyway, and apologize as necessary for slipping up. I just did a post on this very Impala 6 months ago. So... stick a fork in me, I'm done

    2. also, easy on the Mopar guy... I'm just a car guy, but could only afford to buy Mopars, and fix them, and never had the circumstances give me the chance to buy or work on all musclecars, but I have carved my place in the car world with this site. I have forgotten more about all makes and models, then I ever would have guessed I'd ever know.

  2. Pontiac had them. I think they were referred to as 'swiss cheese'. Supposedly only 14 were built. They were factory lightweights.

    1. yes, I'd forgotten that I'd posted about them, http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2016/12/mystic-warrior-1963-pontiac-super-duty.html , but with this Impala post I was mostly surprised that I'd not really noticed that Impalas were part of the aluminum factory racers. I guess I'm slipping, or that in the past two weeks I've been to inundated with movie conventions. I'd thought that I'd be able to do muscle car trivia any time and any where... but, obviously, I'm not up to that challenge

    2. you know what's worse? Only 6 months ago I posted this exact car. So... yeah, I'm losing track. Alzheimers?
Maybe. Who knows. Anyway, I've posted a lot about factory lightweights https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/search/label/Factory%20lightweight
