Lieutenant and naval aviator Harvey Haller built his tank with Flathead power and $690.00 while stationed in Honolulu. (since Honolulu doesn't have a military base, I'm going to guess this was poor editing or lazy writing, and they meant that he was stationed at Ford Island in Pearl Harbor, Barber Point, or Hickam AFB)
Once stateside, the car appeared on the Apr. ’53 Hot Rod cover.
He teamed with Frank Breene and with a 364-inch Chrysler he earned a spot in the 200 MPH Club at the 1953 Bonneville Nationals by setting the D-Lakester record at 209.48 mph.
