The ALCO was one of the very best cars of its day and built to the highest standards. In 1912 a six cylinder touring car like this cost about $6000, ten times the price of a Ford T. In 1913 ALCO tallied up their accounts and reckoned after building about 5000 cars in five years they had lost an average $460 on each one so decided to stick to what they made money at - building locomotives.
