Done on purpose to try to embarass drivers into getting the tire repaired instead of driving around on a decidedly temporary spare. I wonder if in some countries the police get involved too?

Correct, MR2 Spyder with a hard top. The spare sure is ugly, it should be yellow like the rear wheel. :)
