back when car dealerships were small family owned, and before they were all cookie cutter in looks (thanks Mike!) Feely Chevrolet, Needham, Massachusetts

Notice above the left most door... the word Lubritorium!

  1. I suspect this started out to be the classic tiny 20's era gas station ( small peaked roof over the front door) then had service stalls added, and then the big showroom addition to the right in the photo along with the new higher roofline. All over a few decades. What a fun hobby shop that would be now that I'm having fun in my retirement, but I'll bet it's flattened and underneath a four lane highway now.

    1. you are spot on! it would be a great hobby shop! Have you seen the old service stations that I posted that have been restored or made over into car club garages? And about 15 years ago I posted about a service station that was just closed one day, everything was left inside, and decades later the new owner, who had lived in the area, and known the place when it was in business... set about cleaning it up, clearing it out, and using it for his Nova. https://justacarguy.blogspot.com/search/label/Thomas%20Payne%27s%20service%20garage%20restoration

  2. Someone posted more pictures of this site on Reddit. There is a fire station there now.

  3. When I was a kid (in the 60's) we had a toy service station made of pressed sheetmetal and accompanying plastic cars. The service station had "Lubritorium" over the bay doorway. I'm guessing now that it was a bit of an inside joke because that name was well out of usage by then.
