the Jeep Cowboy concept

  1. Looks like an AMC Hornet grill and lights. AMCs of that era were either a nice solid car or total crap. no in between.

    1. Yup, the info with this concept was that this idea was scrapped for the Hornet Hatchback.

    2. Pretty much a Hornet from the B pillar forward. No one milked economy of scale like AMC.

    3. I agree with the either-or nature of AMC products. With a few exceptions their design statements were 'meh' and 'huh?' Dick Teague drew up a modest niche market body style, the engineers combined chassis and drive train components from the Rambler American with the front suspension from their full size cars and voila, the Hornet was born-ish. Amazing too is that in one form or another the Hornet soldiered on for 18 years.

  2. Wow. At first glance I thought it was some weird HK holden ute for the non aus/nz market.

  3. Take a Gremlin and add a truckbed.

after she wore out a 67 beetle, my mom bought a purple 74 Gremlin.

  4. Not bad looking, the only problem would have been trying to sell it as a Jeep.

  5. Dear Lord, thank you for providing AMC executives the wisdom to shutter this delusional, dysfunctional, mis lead conception which passed in front of their collective eyes in order to provide the Jeep community with the mighty CJ8. Amen.

    1. The Jeep community hasn't forgiven AMC/Chrysler for the square headlights on the YJ Wrangler, I can't imagine how they'd have reacted to this.
