Tatra 11 (1923 - 27)built using a single-tube chassis that connected the engine with the rear axle. The front suspension mounted directly on the flat four, making the engine a fully stressed member of the chassis.

  1. hm, that is not a Tatra 11 pictured, that's Tatra 87 - much more modern car from the 1930s. It got me thinking that you posted a rear-engined Tatra and the caption said that the front suspension mounted to the flat four. Tatra 11 did have the so called backbone chassis which is very interesting design, just the wrong photo.

The link you posted got it wrong, I guess.

    1. the link is Automobile Magazine, and in their coverage of Retromobile, this was the photo and information they have on their website.
      Do I know a Tatra 11 from a Tatre 87?
      Hell no.
I just found the info interesting, and thought it was right to share that, figuring other people would find that design interesting also.
I'll go look up a Tatra 11 and put that photo in.
      Thanks!
