Kodachrome sure made great photo colors, and Ilona Medvecki made great use of it to show off her T Bird

this ballerina made a lot of money on tour, but instead of losing a big piece of that money to the money changers when crossing the border into another country, she bought this T Bird.

and then was the only new T Bird owner in Budapest.

Photographer Palfay Gabor chose Buda Castle as the background, and the session itself took place on Gellert Hill on July 19, 1965.

In 1974, she married the Austrian Duke Wilhelm Alexander von Tourne and Taxis.

Yes, that is correct, the Princely House of Thurn and Taxis (German: Fürstenhaus Thurn und Taxis [ˈtuːɐ̯n ʊnt ˈtaksɪs])

It was a key player in the postal services in Europe during the 16th century, until the end of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806, and became well known as the owner of breweries and builder of many castles.

The family is one of the wealthiest in Germany and has resided at St. Emmeram Castle in Regensburg since 1748.

The duke was ... somewhat gay and Ilona paid him to officially marry her and so she could obtain Austrian citizenship. This allowed her to get freedom of movement and a visa to work in Las Vegas, New York, Los Angeles.

  2. She and her car played a role in the 1969 comedy: "A Veréb is Madár" (The sparrow is a bird too).
The opening title of the movie starring the T-Bird:

The whole movie is available online, but because it is Hungarian only, you won't understand a word of it - which is a shame, it is really a good, old fashinoed comedy. But anyway if you want to check on Ilona a bit more - take may advice, you want to -, go forward to 1:14:50! ;-)

Jesse, you publish relatively many hungarian releated stuff - which is great I really glad about it. I was wondering: How come? You have some hungarian roots? I am hungarian, so I just curious.

    1. I am not, it's a matter of you being sensitive to noticing when I post about Hungarian things. Similarly, when someone buys a certain car, and suddenly, you notice those cars. Until they had bought it,you never had reason to think about those before.
I post so much, and people in Japan would similarly think I post a lot about Japan, or people with Torino's think I post a lot about the Torino, or the Vega, or the Goggomobile, or whatever.
It's more that you notice it, than that I happen to focus on posting any particular thing.

But I am glad it pleases you!
and thanks for the advice on the movie!

  3. 'Somewhat gay'. Is that the same as gay-ish?

    1. Yes... to the point where he doesn't have to perform as a husband, and she won't ever be needed to put up with him in bed.
It's a damn fine rewarding solution for both of them! He needed the money, and she needed that citzenship
