the Society of Automotive Historians give one book a year the Cugnot Award, to the book that best advances the understanding of the history of the automobile.

“The historian’s craft is a difficult one, requiring meticulous research, substantial analysis, broad context and engaging prose. Automotive history presents special challenges . It must capture the hearts and minds of enthusiasts without becoming merely nostalgic, while presenting explanatory contexts that link it to broad social and political themes."

Other book awards are the Mercedes-Benz Montagu of Beaulieu Trophy
(presented by the Guild of Motoring Writers),
the Royal Automobile Club's Specialist Motoring Book of the Year,
the Michael Sedgwick Award
(presented by Society of Automotive Historians in Britain)
and Best Automotive Heritage Book
(presented by the Automotive Heritage Awards).
