in 1990 I was stationed at Subbase Groton Ct, for sub schools, and went to tour the nearby tourist attraction, Gilette's Castle. I had not heard that Gilette had a couple small locomotives for rides around his estate until now
When I was a kid back in the 1950's or so the caxtle was partly open but deteriorated in part, and the railway torn up. They had sold the train and track, I think, to the Lake Compounce amusement park. Many years later I visited again, and was very happy to see that at least some of the line was back in service. Lake Compounce had gone under, and I guess they were able to get it back. A lot of work to replace track and rebuild bridges, but Gillette Castle is quite a landmark.
Great home to visit, isn't it? I like the sliding dining room table that is on rails.
