what the hell is this New York state fire dept rescue vehicle doing in San Diego?

  1. According to this website, that ambulance was retired by their fire department. It looks like the 2004 Chevrolet Kodiak under Retired Apparatus. The same Ambulance number 21-72 is assigned to a Ford now. Maybe a fire department in CA bought the ambulance.

I looked a few years back on their Facebook page and I didn't see anything about when it was retired. I did learn that fire departments perform wetdown and push-in ceremonies when they get new trucks, sort of like christening a new boat. The push-in ceremony dates to horse-drawn fire equipment, which had to be pushed into the fire house.
