BAck in the 60's when I was still a teenager another fellow and I worked for a summer with a former teacher in NH, building a lake house (and living in the one next door). One of the perks was that he had a boat with an old Evinrude - probably newer than this one, but still old enough to be rope start. We puttered with it endlessly and got it to run just barely, but never quite got more than a slow putt putt out of it until some time in the last week we were there, when it occurred to me....sure enough, we'd been running it backwards.
